Agricultural Research Landscape in Cameroon

Cameroon, with approximately 7.2 million hectares of agricultural land, is a major agricultural producer in Central Africa, often described as "Africa in miniature" due to its diverse agro-ecological zones. The country is renowned for its cocoa production (one of Africa's top producers), coffee (Robusta and Arabica), bananas and plantains, oil palm, rubber, cotton, corn (maize), cassava, yams, sweet potatoes, groundnuts, rice, and various fruits (mangoes, pineapples, citrus, papayas). Cameroon is also a leading producer of plantains and a significant exporter of bananas. Through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD), and the National Agricultural Research and Extension System (NARES), Cameroon continues to advance agricultural research and innovation with strong emphasis on food security, sustainable farming, and climate adaptation.

Cocoa & Coffee Research | Recherche sur le Cacao et le Café

Cameroon is one of Africa's largest cocoa producers. Research focuses on disease resistance (black pod, swollen shoot), variety improvement, quality enhancement, and sustainable farming practices for smallholder farmers.

Cassava & Tuber Crop Research | Recherche sur le Manioc et les Tubercules

Cassava is a staple food crop in Cameroon. Research focuses on mosaic virus resistance, high-yielding varieties, post-harvest processing, and value addition for food security and industrial use.
