Research Data Policy

IJOEAR Research Data Policy - Data Sharing and Management Guidelines
Policy Statement

The International Journal of Environmental and Agriculture Research (IJOEAR) is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, and data sharing in scholarly research. This policy outlines the requirements for data availability statements, data sharing, and research data management for all manuscripts submitted to the journal.

Data Availability Statement

All manuscripts submitted to IJOEAR must include a Data Availability Statement indicating where the research data supporting the findings can be accessed.

Statement Requirements

  • Clearly state whether data is publicly available
  • Provide repository name and persistent identifier (DOI, handle, etc.)
  • Explain any restrictions on data access
  • Specify conditions for accessing restricted data
  • Include statement even if no data is available

Statement Location

  • Place after the Conclusion section
  • Before the References section
  • Separate heading: "Data Availability Statement"
  • Included in main manuscript file
Sample Data Availability Statements

"The data that support the findings of this study are openly available in [Repository Name] at [DOI/Permalink], reference number [XXX]."

"The data that support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."

"No new data were created or analyzed in this study. Data sharing is not applicable to this article."

Data Sharing Requirements

IJOEAR encourages authors to share their research data to promote transparency and reproducibility.

Data TypeSharing RequirementPreferred Format
Quantitative data Encouraged to share in public repository CSV, Excel, SAS, SPSS, R data
Qualitative data Encouraged to share (with anonymization) Text, interview transcripts, PDF
Code/Software Encouraged to share in repository (GitHub, etc.) Scripts, code, notebooks
Images/Figures Available upon reasonable request TIFF, PNG, JPG
Benefits of Data Sharing
  • Increased citations and research impact
  • Enhanced reproducibility and transparency
  • Compliance with funder mandates
  • Long-term preservation of valuable data
  • Opportunities for secondary research

Data Citation

When research data is shared in a repository, authors should cite the dataset in the References section.

ElementFormat

Title Title of the dataset
Version Version number (if applicable)
Repository Name of data repository
Persistent Identifier DOI or handle

Exceptions & Sensitive Data

IJOEAR recognizes that some data cannot be shared publicly due to ethical, legal, or privacy concerns.

Sensitive Data Types

  • Human subjects data (privacy/confidentiality)
  • Location data of endangered species
  • Proprietary or commercially sensitive data
  • Data under legal restriction
  • Third-party data with restricted access

Requirements for Sensitive Data

  • Explain restrictions in Data Availability Statement
  • Describe conditions for accessing data
  • Provide contact information for data requests
  • Consider anonymized or aggregated data sharing
  • Document data access procedures

Note: Authors must still provide a Data Availability Statement explaining why data cannot be shared and how others may request access.

Data Preservation & Long-Term Access

IJOEAR encourages authors to deposit data in repositories that ensure long-term preservation.

Preservation Standard

Repositories should have clear preservation policies and backup procedures

Persistent Identifiers

DOIs or handles ensure permanent access to data

Version Control

Repositories should support versioning of datasets

IJOEAR does not host research data directly. All data should be deposited in external repositories. The journal is not responsible for long-term data preservation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Data sharing is strongly encouraged but not mandatory. However, a Data Availability Statement is required for all submissions. For studies without data (e.g., review articles, theoretical papers), state "No new data were created or analyzed in this study."

Yes, but this is considered a lower level of data sharing. Repository deposit is preferred as it ensures long-term access. If using "available upon request," provide clear instructions for contacting the corresponding author and describe any conditions for access.

Many repositories accept large datasets. If data is extremely large, provide a detailed description of the data and how others can request access. Some repositories offer specialized storage for large-scale research data.

Yes. While sharing at the time of publication is preferred, you may deposit data after publication and update the Data Availability Statement via a correction notice. We recommend sharing data before or at the time of publication.

Code sharing is encouraged for reproducibility, especially for computational studies. Authors may share code on GitHub, Zenodo, or similar platforms and cite it in the Data Availability Statement.
